Maverick

Major 'Maverick' is Sam Harper's best friend and senior officer at JAUSTF-UCT in Houston, the son of a black professor and a Brazilian social worker who came up through UC Berkeley engineering. When the unit pivots to domestic operations he plans the FCA Church infiltration, ends up shooting one of two ATV-mounted church guards dead during a botched mission, and fractures his friendship with Sam over the political and constitutional fault lines.
